In this residential event we will guide you to the next level in development of your conceptual skills in design and competencies in woodworking including characteristics of timber, safe use of hand and power tools, woodworking machinery, carving, sharpening and finishing. We will assess your skill level and design our support to ensure your progress.

We have been around skills development for decades, setting ourselves some very steep learning curves in some projects. It’s a process whereby you have to engage at a level where you live, eat and sleep the process, refining ideas, wrestling with the complexity of what you are trying to achieve and gathering the skills as you go. It’s a true expression of what it is to be agile and think on your feet.

This is why we advocate this residential format because it enables a deeper immersion in process, engaging multiple senses and allowing you to move at your own velocity. We chose our amazing eco-environment because the other half of the creative equation is to stay closely connected to the elements and grab every opportunity to reinforce that connection while your learning progresses. Aside from the work in our own programme there will seldom be any other students in the studio, ensuring you have a clear run and enjoy our close support and expertise as you work through the challenges. If you need skills we are not able to provide we will find someone local you can consult. You can be working in the studio for up to 14 hours each day although we limit the time for use of machinery or high-decibel power tools to the hours between 8am-5pm.

The procedure for this 1-week intensive is for you to first define your project and send us an outline. We can advise you on timbers or high quality ply laminates to use and give you an idea of whether it is achievable within a 1-week timeframe. You might already have done our weekend workshop. You can then gather all the materials you need and hit the ground running when you get here.

We provide basics like tea, coffee, milk, salad oils, salt etc.

Cost for this intensive is $1950; if you really want to go hard and have us feed you as well the cost will be $2450. We are quite well known around here for the quality of our food!
