We welcome artists from outside Aotearoa who are looking for an opportunity to expand their horizons and experience our unique Māori culture.

You will stay in one of our 2-person cabins or safari tents. Our facilities include uninterrupted use of the studio kitchen, laundry and bathrooms. We find it is simpler if you will bring your own
sleeping bag and towel etc.

You will have the use of or have the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment in our widely equipped studio facilities including woodworking equipment, welding, upholstery, mould-making, carving. The goal of the residency should be to produce a body of work that can be shown in our 7Islands gallery as the final event. We will invite our mailing list and the works can be sold to help defer costs.

For some residents with suitable skills it will be possible to offset residency costs by assisting with our own studio productions. The 7 Islands Art & Eco Sanctuary is located midway between Mangawhai and Waipu at Wairahi Beach. Your own vehicle is recommended: it is around 15 minutes by car to Waipu or Mangawhai. Both villages are well equipped with almost anything you will need except artists supplies, for this the journey to Whangarei takes 40 minutes.
